biosphere — English
The region of the Earth and the atmosphere in which life exists. This region stretches from approximately 7 000 metres above sea-level on the landmasses to more than 10 000 metres below sea-level in the oceans. Note that it encompasses the Earth’s surface, the oceans and the lower atmosphere. It could be called the interface or overlap of land, water and air, in other words the region where the solid, gaseous and liquid states of matter meet.
