green political parties — English
Political parties that have the environment as the basic tenet of their constitutions and all their policies (see “greening mainstream politics”). Owing to the huge general concern for the environment, voters want political representatives who would see to the protection of the local and global environments. Most of the developed, democratic states of Western Europe (for example Germany, England, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Austria), the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Iceland, and others have fully fledged green parties. These parties enjoy so much public support that they are in some cases even able to form coalition governments with mainstream parties. In the developing world, politics are dominated by questions other than the environment, consequently the environment is not an important role-player in the politics of the day.
