ordinal scale — English

Attribute data are captured using a scale of measurement. An orinal scale represents the relative order of values, but does not record the magnitude of differences between values. Examples of an ordinal scale include the ranking of hotels ( 1-star to 5-star hotels) or positions in a race (first, second or third place). Ordinal data imply an order (low to high) in the attribute data and cannot be used for any other calculations.
