Global South — English

The opposite of the Global North (see “Global North”) with the focus on the “poor” developing countries. The countries of the Global South have low GNPs, low GDPs and low HDIs. The BRICS countries present the very same classification problem as when we focus on the Global North. Nowadays, the terms “developed countries”, “developing countries”, “countries in transition” and “BRICS countries” are preferred, and “Global North” and “South” are falling into disuse.
