feature generalisation — English
Feature generalisation is the incomplete representation of shape-defining coordinates for entities represented in a GIS. The extent of generalisation done is determined by the scale of the map. A coastline on a 1:10 000 scale map has far fewer generalisations than the same coastline on a 1:250 00 scale map.
