datum — English
A datum is a set of coordinate locations specifying horizontal positions (for a horizontal datum) or vertical positions (for a vertical datum) on the surface of the earth. These datums are used to determine a position in latitude and longitude on the earth’s surface that can be placed on a map using a specified map projection. WGS84 is the standard datum used in GPS. Some maps use WGS84 as their reference datum.
