MAUP, modifiable areal unit problem — English
MAUP is the dependence of aggregate area statistics on the size and shape of the aggregation units. It can affect the results of statistics. For example, when population densities are calculated using suburbs, the results may differ from densities calculated based on census districts. Although the population stays constant, the areas of the suburbs and census districts differ and will return different results.
